"Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you."

— Frank Lloyd Wright

I’m Ian Rendall, a Scottish wildlife artist with a deep passion for nature and capturing the raw beauty of wildlife and landscapes through watercolour.

My journey has taken me from the shores of Aberdeenshire to Wales, Kent, and back to Scotland, always with a sketchbook to hand.

A Life in Nature & Art

My love for wildlife started early—at aged 12, I developed a fascination with birds, which led me to becoming a licenced bird ringer and to work as an assistant warden and tern warden. This passion guided me to study Wildlife Illustration and later illustrate scientific papers at the University of Aberdeen and illustrate two bird books.

A Year at the Ythan Estuary

In 2025, I am embarking on a year-long residency at the Ythan Estuary in Newburgh, sketching and painting en plein air. Supported by the Newburgh and Ythan Community Trust, this project allows me to immerse myself in the ever-changing tidal landscapes and diverse birdlife.
