Time and Tide: A blog of a year's art residency at the Ythan Estuary

Day 5: Estuary Tidal Mudflats, 01.02.25

A bright but windier and still cold estuary on day 5. Decided to seek more shelter from the elements by spending day up at the 'Tin Hut' just inland from the estuary mouth.

Day 4: Seal Beach and Estuary Mouth, 19.01.25

A shorter blog post for another freezing cold day 4 at the estuary....

Day 3: Seal Beach and Estuary Mouth, 18.01.25

The third day spent on the Ythan Estuary and yet another bright but cold morning at the seal beach with the low sun casting heavy shadows....

Day 2: Seal Beach and Estuary Mouth, 12.01.25

Another freezing but beautiful day spent once again on the side of a dune at Newburgh beach in the company of the grey seals opposite at the Forvie Nature Reserve haul-out.

Day 1: Seal Beach and Estuary Mouth, 11.01.25

A freezing but stunning morning with hundreds of seals, gulls, and sanderlings. As temperatures dropped, even my paint water began to freeze. Ended the day watching redwings forage, reminded to let go of perfection and just paint what I see.
